If you are considering opening your doors but still have questions: Contact us as well — we can help you.

Over the past several months, we have conducted extensive field research and meetings, including site visits in Portugal and France, working with SMEs and large companies across various sectors (agri-food, industry, craftsmanship, energy, etc.). This work has been complemented by research, interviews, and discussions with companies, local authorities, and industrial tourism stakeholders.

During each visit, we meet with site managers, guides, and institutions to exchange experiences and address key questions: What should truly be shown to visitors? How can we tell our story in a simple and engaging way? How can visits be organized without disrupting production? Which audiences should be welcomed? Should visits be paid? At what price? How often should visits take place? How can visitors be effectively attracted?

Some Best Practices

Through these visits and interviews, certain best practices consistently make a real difference. Here is an overview:
  1. A clear and easy-to-understand narrative The most engaging visits tell a simple story: what is made here, why, how, and for whom.
  2. Visible gestures and production stages Seeing a machine in operation, a skilled gesture, or a material transformation is far more impactful than theoretical explanations alone.
  3. A strong human dimension The most memorable visits are almost always led by passionate people. They share their profession, their journey, and the daily life of the company.
  4. An experience designed for the visitor Successful visits are structured around the visitor’s rhythm and attention. They alternate between explanations, observation, demonstrations, and exchanges.
  5. An offer adapted to different audiences Companies welcoming diverse audiences adjust their content, duration, and format for schools, students, families, or professionals.
  6. A visit that is visible and easy to find Visits that work best are almost always those that are easy to discover (company website, platforms, partners).
